Today we’re creating this post to further look into the dress codes of RP students and finding out how students feel about wearing inappropriate attire in RP and the dress code that RP has set for their students.
We interviewed our fellow school mates and found out their feedback:
Inappropriate clothing worn by students shows a bad image of the institute

For girls, its too revealing. guys should definitely look at them as they wear revealing clothes. But the girls will feel insecure and stuffs wear revealing clothes than people cannot see
|
Public will feel that students treat school too lightly
|
For students who wears too revealing or inappropriate attire it will cause the school to have a bad impression and students may get criticized by the public , which might cause them to feel uncomfortable in school.

It's alright as long as it's not too revealing like tube tops and ultra mini skirts

After looking through the RP’s website for the code of conduct, we found the dos and don’ts for student’s attire.
All students should:
- Be decently attired in a manner that conforms to social and moral norms.
- Not sport hair in outrageous colours.
- Not wear sleeveless T-shirts, singlets and shorts (except at for sports activities).
- Not wear any form of dress which may be improper, indecent or offensive.
- Not wear slippers (footwear without back or heel strap).
- Not put on a veil or cloth to cover his/her face on campus.
For their own safety, students entering workshops and laboratories:
- Must be in proper attire and shoes.
- Must comply with industrial safety rules as directed by the lecturer at all times.
- May be asked to leave the premises by the Polytechnic’s staff should he/she misbehave in class / laboratory / workshop / library / sports facilities.
Besides that, we also found out the consequences of inappropriate attire:
- Students who are inappropriately attired will not be allowed to go to class / laboratory / workshop / library and will not be served at the One Stop Centre.
- Schools/Centre may impose stricter requirements on attire, and students taking modules from these Schools/Centre must abide by their stipulated dress code.
These are some examples of inappropriate vs appropriate attire:

Comment of Student about Attire.
I feel that we students come here to study but some students think that every day in school involves requiring them to make a fashion statement
Here are some suggested solutions that we came up with to help solve/lessen these problems for students. Besides that, we can also raise awareness among RP Students.
- Organize plays for students to enjoy. They can also learn while doing or watching something of interest.
- Strictly abide the rules so if anyone students were to break the rules they’ll face the consequence.
-Praise students with good attire as role model to others (Awards….)
- We can suggest wearing uniform
-Counselling
-Spot check
Everyone can play a part in making RP a more conducive environment to be in. It all starts with me and you. :-)
